School board discusses play production co-op with Wausa; security system purchase

OSMOND — Wausa Public School Superintendent Brad Hoesing and wife, Sheila (Vinson) Hoesing, Wausa play production director and co-director, respectively, addressed the District 42R Board of Education at its meeting on Monday, April 9.

Hoesing advised that the two had been approached by Osmond Superintendent Dave Hamm and Principal Kurt Polt about cooperative play production. He spoke with Wausa students and parents, and asked the students to vote on the issue. He said that the results were overwhelmingly in favor of combining the schools for play production. Hoesing said they see it as a favorable opportunity. This would move them up a class, and the students said they welcomed the opportunity to compete in a higher class. Wausa Public Schools one-act plays have consistently emerged as champions at state competitions.

Hoesing provided his practice and competition rules and expectations and discussed them with the board. He advised the board that the Wausa district expects to have about 50 students in play production next year. With Osmond students involved, they anticipate numbers in the 70s to 80s.
