Schomberg named to Hall of Fame

PIERCE — The Hall of Fame Award is presented to someone who has given extensive service to the Pierce County Agricultural Society and Pierce County Fair for an extended period of time. The award was presented during an award ceremony held Friday, Aug. 2, at the fairgrounds. The following was read during the ceremony.

This year’s recipient has been involved with the Pierce County Fair for more than 60 years, beginning as a 4-H exhibitor. He was a 4-H leader for many years, 4-H trophy donor, has served on the fair bBoard for 40 years and has been open class beef superintendent for 35 years, as well as heading the Ak-Sar-Ben beef check-in crew for many years. He was instrumental in getting the livestock barn and show arena built. It is with pleasure that we present the 2019 Hall of Fame Award to Bill Schomberg.

Bill was raised on a farm west of Pierce. He and his brother, Ron, and sister, Karen Schulz, were all involved in 4-H, showing shorthorn cattle and Yorkshire pigs. The family attended many livestock shows. Bill was even able to exhibit a steer at the World’s Fair in Chicago.
