Osmond team attends state convention in Norfolk

NORFOLK — Seven Osmond area participants took part in the Nebraska Community Foundation’s Annual Conference last week in Norfolk. More than 500 community volunteers from 257 Nebraska affiliated towns came together last Thursday to share what works best for organization practices in community foundation development.

Throughout the day, the Osmond team split up to cover more than a dozen topics in breakout session that included information on workforce development, housing, youth engagement, healthcare, after school and summer programs, philanthropy in the workplace and building community relationships. “Collaborate or die,” a favorite session, was a frank discussion for attentive communities to recognize that boundaries and divisiveness among local organizations have no room in a town if it is to survive and grow.

Community members listened to Richard Walter from Shickley, NE, relate how their community foundation now grants out more funds annually than their town of 326 collects in property taxes. They also listened to a session on Healthcare where it was revealed that more than 100 babies were delivered last year in the Pender hospital, population 1,055.
