JUST GETTING STARTED

— Some area producers took advantage of a few “dry” days recently to try and get some work done in the fields. According to the Nebraska crop progress report, as of April 29, only 16% of corn was planted, behind the 23% five-year average, while 3% of soybeans were planted, about average. According to officials, late-winter moisture, flooding and low temperatures have kept many farmers out of their fields and delayed the planting of corn and other crops in Nebraska. The weather this week does not look much better, with chances of rain most days, in particular on Friday, when there is an 80% chance of rain and scattered thundershowers.
