County welcomed into NIRMA

PIERCE — Pierce County recently received a plaque welcoming the entity into the Nebraska Intergovernmental Risk Management Association (NIRMA). The county officially became a member last July, one of four new members in 2018. The other three were Frontier County, Madison County and Gosper County agricultural societies.

NIRMA was created in 1988 with the intent of membership to be comprised solely of Nebraska counties; however, this was amended in 2002 to allow other county-related entities to become members. The group now includes 97 members — 82 counties and 15 county-related agencies.

NIRMA officials say it is considered a trailblazer, as a number of other public sector entities in Nebraska have followed NIRMA’s lead and created their own risk management pools. Today, there are similar pools for the public school systems, community colleges and municipalities, they added.
