Corn crops ‘pretty much done’
Most corn producers in the area, like the Schmit family farmers shown combining corn on the Byron Gutz farm southeast of Osmond in mid-November (above), are “pretty much done,” according to Meril Friedrich at Farmers Pride Co-op here. By Monday morning, only a few more loads of corn were coming in, he reported. And according to the Nebraska crop report, corn harvested across the state was at 88% as of Nov. 18. With the weather turning colder — only a bitter cold 25 degrees for a high on Monday and a low of 7 degrees that night — that report is good news! The temperature will reach into the mid-40s by Thursday, but will then drop back into the 30s with a chance of snow showers on the weekend and into the 20s by next week.
