Zelda Maxine Anderson, daughter of O.W. and Ellen C. (Thorell) Anderson, was born April 14, 1925, at a farm west of Wausa. She attended Round Prairie Country School and graduated from Wausa High School in 1942. She attended Luther College at Wahoo. Following graduation in 1948, she worked three years for the National Lutheran Council, an agency of nine Lutheran denominations, located in Chicago, Ill. Zelda spent the next year helping with family health issues and sister Juliet’s missionary deputation work. Zelda worked for Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Mo., for four years as a parish secretary and then spent six months with her sister, Juliet, on the mission field in Tanzania. She worked at First Lutheran in Longmont, Colo., until 1962, when she moved to Omaha to become a parish worker for Augustana Lutheran Church. She continued in Omaha, working first at the Lutheran Church in America Nebraska Synod for Bishop Rueben Swanson as Christian Education Director, and then as Bishop Swanson’s administrative assistant. When Rev. Dennis Anderson became the Bishop of the Nebraska Synod’s newly formed Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Zelda was his administrative assistant. She retired in 1988 and spent several years as a volunteer for Mosaic, Lutheran Family Services and other ELCA organizations. In 2001, she moved to The Meadows in Norfolk to be close to her sister, Juliet, and other family members. After her faith, Zelda cherished her family and many friends. She was an avid card sender and letter writer, and never forgot a birthday of her family, even the newest great-great-nieces and nephews. Her Christmas letter was sent to hundreds of family, friends and former coworkers. Zelda’s family and friends will miss her encouraging words. She enjoyed travel and has been to five continents which included visits to the Holy Land and mission fields in Africa and Argentina.
