Shirley Sue Clayton

LINCOLN – Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley Sue Clayton, 71, of Granbury, TX, was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 22, 2021, at Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln with Father Christopher Stoley as celebrant. Vicki Wenzl was organist and Sandy Danek, soloist for the songs “Hail Mary Gentle Woman,” “Ave Maria,” “On Eagle's Wings” and “Let Us Build A City Of God.” Interment was in Lincoln Memorial Park.

Visitation was held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21, at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home in Lincoln, with a rosary at 5 p.m.

Mrs. Clayton died Monday, Nov. 15, 2021, in Granbury, TX. Shirley Sue was born May 15, 1950, to Fred and LaVern (Koehn) Schaefer in Osmond. She graduated from Osmond High School in 1968 and from the Lincoln School of Practical Nursing in 1969. On June 20, 1970, she married Gregory Clayton. Many children, friends and family shared the Clayton home, including many cradle care babies from Nebraska Children's Home. They shared everything they had with many. Travel and devotion to family and church were so important. The family grew with son-in-law Ben, who married Brooke in 2003; daughters-in-law Crystal, who married Nicholas in 2003, Ruth, who married Noah in 2005, and Britt, who married Samuel in 2014, and precious grandchildren Vivianne, Hazel, Thomas, Cecelia, Paul, Esme, Regan, Lawson and Juliet, and so grew Shirley and Greg's hearts for them and love for each other.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Anne Rose, and grandson, Lawson Gregory.

Survivors include her husband, Greg; children, Nicholas (Crystal), Noah (Ruth), Brooke (Ben), Samuel (Britt) and Ira, and eight grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Children's Home. Condolences may be sent to Greg Clayton, 5210 Apache Court, Granbury, TX 76049.
