Paul John Schnieders

RANDOLPH — Paul John Schnieders, 97, Randolph, died Sept. 6, 2018, at Osmond General Hospital, Osmond.
Visitation and a Christian Wake Service were all Sunday at Saint Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Randolph, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home, Randolph.
Funeral Services were Sept. 10 at Saint Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Randolph, with Rev. Father Timothy Forget and Deacon Doug Tunink officiating.
Interment was in Saint Jane Frances Catholic Cemetery, Randolph, with Military Rites provided by Alvin Kessler V.F.W. Post #5545 and American Legion Post #113, Randolph.
Pallbearers were Paul’s grandsons, Ryan Schnieders, Nathan Schnieders, Dan Arens, Mike Arens, Tom Arens and Derek Charles.
Honorary pallbearers were all of Paul’s granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
Paul was born June 19, 1921, to John and Barbara (Bonertz) Schnieders. Paul attended Cedar County District #82 to the eighth grade and was a 1941 graduate of Hartington High School. Paul worked for Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica, Calif., until he joined the United States Coast Guard Sept. 2, 1942, as a Seaman 1st Class, serving in South Pacific during WWII. He was honorably discharged March 18, 1946. Paul returned to Bow Valley and began farming. Paul married Dorothy Kaiser Nov. 15, 1948, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Helena. The couple made their home near Bow Valley until February 1959, when they began farming south of McLean, continuing there until retiring in 1989 and moving to Randolph.
Paul was a member of Saint Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Randolph, where he served on the church council and as an usher. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #5143 and Alvin Kessler V.F.W. Post #5545, Randolph.
His hobbies included woodworking, golf, bowling and cooking.
Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Schnieders, Randolph; five children, Diane Charles, St. Louis, Mo.; Daniel and Sharon Schnieders, Omaha; Carla and Arnie Arens, Omaha; Carol and Barry Caster, Omaha; Steve and Denise Schnieders, Columbus; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren;
Preceding Paul in death are his parents; one daughter, Jane Frances, in infancy; one great-granddaughter, Samantha Allen; seven brothers and six sisters.
