Obituary Marjorie Lee Friedrich

Funeral services for Marjorie Lee Friedrich, 79, of Plainview were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview. Burial was in the Danish Cemetery in rural Plainview.

Visitation was on Thursday, Dec. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ashburn Funeral Home in Plainview.

Mrs. Friedrich died Dec. 23, 2018.

Marjorie Lee (Barnes) Friedrich, the daughter of John L. and Nona H. (Jensen) Barnes, was born April 25, 1939, in Gordon. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Osmond, and in 1959 she was confirmed into the Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview. Marge attended rural schools in Pierce County until the eighth grade. At the age of 13, she lived and worked for Gene and Euna Baber at their café until graduating from Plainview High School. She attended Wayne State College where she received a teacher’s certificate, then taught in a rural school for several years. Marjorie married Walter Friedrich on Dec. 19, 1958, at Zion Lutheran Church. They celebrated 60 loving years of marriage. They lived their lives on farms around Plainview before buying a farm of their own, where they raised three daughters. Later in life, Marge andWalt moved into Plainview where Marge owned and operated Friedrich’s Garden for 21 years, until retiring because of health problems. She enjoyed visiting with all of her customers, both young and old, and was known as “the Angel Lady” because of her love of angels. After retirement, she enjoyed spending even more time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, James and Nona (Jensen) Barnes; father- and mother-in-law, Jacob and Elsie (Weyrich) Friedrich; brother James “Jimmy” Barnes; sister Norma (Barnes) Ruterbories; brother-inlaw, Elmer Friedrich; brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Alice (Kieckhafer) Friedrich; brotherin-law Ray Krohn, and beloved daughter, Shelly L. (Friedrich) Johnston.

She is survived by her husband, Walter; daughters, Barbara Friedrich of Plainview and Susan (Michael) Johnson of Oswego, NY, six grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.
