Marjorie Ann “Marge” Becker

YANKTON, S.D. — Marjorie Ann “Marge” Becker, 83, Yankton, S.D., died Feb. 8, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Village, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Visitation, with a rosary and Vigil service, were Feb. 14 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Yankton.

Mass of Christian Burial was Feb. 15 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Scott Traynor officiating.

Burial was in Beaver Creek Cemetery, rural Crofton.

Pallbearers were Marge’s grandchildren, Sara Rogers, Jill Ward, Eric Ward, Melicia Smith, Amy Westrum, Mark Smith, Katie Stutzman, Tony Becker and Alex Becker.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz and Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Yankton.

Marge was born March 22, 1935, to Barney and Magdalen (Weibel) Tramp on the homestead in Cedar County. She grew up in Cedar County and attended schools in Aten, Wynot and Yankton Sacred Heart. She graduated in 1953 from Yankton High School. Marge and Art were married July 7, 1954, in Menominee. They moved into their house in Yankton in 1961, and enjoyed the beautiful river with its majestic views each season. Marge worked at Sacred Heart Hospital until she joined Willcockson Eye Clinic. She continued working for Tom, and later his son, John, until his retirement, when she retired also. While working, she continued her education and became a medical records secretary coding charts for various hospitals in the region.

Art and Marge enjoyed traveling with family and friends. They were lifelong dog lovers. They also enjoyed watching the activity on the river. Birds, squirrels and various other forms of wildlife kept them entertained. They also enjoyed fishing with family. Marge was always available to watch sporting events on television and enjoyed attending her great-grandchildren’s activities.

After retirement Marge became involved with SHIINE. She wasn’t afraid of technology and was very computer literate. She was happy she saved hundreds of Medicare Part D individuals thousands of dollars and solved many issues with her counseling. She also helped in any capacity she could at The Center. She enjoyed her daily Sheephead games with other members. She was known for her feistiness. She continued volunteering with SHIINE until her death. She was United Way Volunteer of the Year in 2008 and of The Center in 2015.

Marge is survived by three children, Joleen (Randy) Smith, Charleen (Elmer) Ward and Gary (Renee) Becker, all from Yankton, S.D.; nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Dan, and sister, Donna.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Art; and brothers, Arnold, Marvin and Vincent.
