Lowell D. Tanderup

VERMILLION, S.D. — Lowell D. Tanderup, 82, Vermillion, S.D., formerly of Obert, died May 23, 2019, at his residence.

Visitation and a Prayer Service were May 27 at the Hansen Funeral Home, Vermillion.

Funeral services were May 28 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Vermillion, with burial at a later date.

Lowell was born Sept. 20, 1936, on the family farm one mile north of Obert, farming there until he was 62.

He graduated from Obert High School and married Maxine Hamilton Nov. 5, 1960, and they moved to Wynot, in 1998. He operated heavy equipment throughout his entire lifetime and in 2009, moved to Vermillion and worked for the Hooker Township in Nebraska, retiring in 2012.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Elvira Grindvold, Calvin “Junior” Tanderup, Verjean Tanderup Rahn, Aylene Tanderup Cockrell, Lyle Tanderup, Wayne Tanderup, Robert Tanderup, Nitha Gamble Tanderup, Merrill “Fuzz” Tanderup and Janice Tanderup.

Lowell is survived by his wife Maxine, Vermillion, S.D.; two daughters, Delores (Bill) Watts, Stanton, and Irene Stevens, Kearney; two sons, George (Bonnie) Tanderup, Newcastle, and Eric (Tammi) Tanderup, Martinson; 12 grandchildren, six step grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mona Ricci, Colorado Springs, Colo.
