Louis Hans
WYNOT — Louis Hans, 98, Wynot, died Nov. 13, 2018, at the Hartington Care and Rehabilitation Center, Hartington.
Visitation and a vigil service were Nov. 16 at church, and continued Saturday at the church, one hour prior to services.
Mass of Christian Burial was Nov. 17, at Holy Family (Sacred Heart) Catholic Church, Wynot, with the Rev. Eric Olsen officiating.
Burial was at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wynot, with military honors by the Wynot American Legion Post #31 and the American Legion Riders.
Pallbearers were Rob Hans, Randy Bruening, Jesse Jasnoch, Stan Hans, Bill Bruening, Mark Hans, Steven O’Morrow and Drex Cushing.
Honorary pallbearer was Garrett Hans.

George Louis Hans was born Feb. 9, 1920, in Wynot, to George A. and Mary Barbara (Koch) Hans. He grew up in the Wynot area and graduated from Wynot High School in 1937. Louis served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 18, 1942-Dec. 11, 1945. He then was enlisted in the Army Air Corps Reserves from 1945-1952. Louis married Clara Catherine Bruening June 7, 1949, in St. Helena. He farmed with his brother Gerald “Jiggs” Hans and then on his own. Louis spent his life as a farmer; he raised grain and livestock and had a dairy operation. Louis continued to help his son harvest crops until a few years ago. Louis was a pillar to his family, symbolizing great strength, positivity, integrity and diligence. He was a man of his word and wisdom teaching life lessons, saying “please” and “thank you” and setting an example of being kind. These characteristics filtered through to his sons and daughters and to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Louis was loved and known by many as a sweet and caring man who could make anyone feel special in just a few words. His handsome smile brightened up the room, his precious, gentle laugh drew the attention of many, and his weathered hands made a presence like no other.
Louis was a member of the Holy Family (Sacred Heart) church, the Knights of Columbus, Wynot American Legion Post 31, Wynot Volunteer Fire Department, and the Wynot School Board for 24 years. Louis and Clara loved dancing and going to Homewood Park in their younger years.
Louis is survived by his seven children and their spouses, Mike and Julie Hans, Wynot; Gary and Tricia Hans, Foley, Ala.; Marilou and Jack Jasnoch, Omaha; David and Kristi Hans, Chanhassen, Minn.; Paul and Jill Hans, Omaha; Amy Hans, Omaha; and Neil and Christine Hans, Omaha; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Jo O’Morrow, Concord, N.C.; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hans, Yankton, S.D.; and brotherin-law, Don Bruening, Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Clara, July 19, 1991; grandson, Garrett Hans; sister, Henrietta Hans; three brothers, Wilfred “Bill,” Marcus “Jim,” and Gerald “Jiggs” Hans; sisters-in-law, Jean Hans, Leota (Sim) Hans; and brother-in-law, Gerald O’Morrow.
