Lonnie Benson

MAGNET — Memorial services for Lonnie Benson, 69, Magnet, were held Dec. 30 at Magnet Community Hall, Magnet.

Dave Fink officiated, with burial at a later date. Brockhaus Funeral Home, Wausa, was in charge of arrangements. Lonnie died Dec. 24, 2023, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha.

Lonnie L. Benson was born Dec. 4, 1954, at Osmond, to LeRoy “Pete” and Lorelei Benson. He graduated from Wausa High School in 1973, and worked as a carpenter most of his life.

Lonnie married Sharon Puntney Dec. 3, 1976, at Magnet. One daughter, Julie Marie, was born to them, May 28, 1978. She married Matthew Hehensee Aug. 16, 2006. A grandson, Briggs Matthew, was born May 21, 2017.

Lonnie is survived by his wife, Sharon; his daughter, Julie, and her husband, Matt, and their son, Briggs; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy; mother and stepfather, Lorelei and Olin Belt; brother, Larry; sisters, Linda Benson and Lynette (Patrick) Bryant; and grandparents.
