Lawrence S. Dreesen

HARTINGTON — Lawrence S. Dreesen, 98, Hartington, died July 13, 2019, at the Hartington Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Visitation and a Rosary were July 16 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington.

Mass of Christian Burial was also Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating.

Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hartington, with military rites by the Hartington VFW Post #5283.

Pallbearers were Darrell Dreesen, Mark Schmidt, Scott Kinkaid, Frank Johansen, Joseph Johansen and Xavier Johansen.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.

Lawrence Stephen Dreesen was born Aug. 17, 1920, in Coleridge, to Stephen Edward and Rose Agnes (McDonald) Dreesen. He received his education from various Cedar County Schools. Lawrence served in the U.S. Airforce from Aug. 10, 1942, until his discharge Jan. 31, 1946, in Santa Anna, Calif. He attained the rank of Tech Sergeant in ground and air communications. Lawrence then enlisted in the Reserves for four years. He returned to Hartington, where he was engaged in farming southwest of town. Lawrence had a sale in 1955, and then he moved to Seattle, Wash., where he worked on B-52 jet engines at Boeing Airplane Company for several years. Lawrence returned to Cedar County and farmed again until his sale in 1994. He then moved into Hartington. Lawrence had been a resident at the Hartington Care and Rehabilitation Center since June 7, 2018.

Lawrence was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, served on the election board, member of Farmers Union Coop, and also sold seed corn. He always enjoyed his neighbors, especially around Pleasant Valley. He was a lifetime member of the Hartington American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. Lawrence always enjoyed farming and hunting.

Lawrence is survived by numerous cousins in Nebraska, South Dakota, and Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Vincent and Stephen Dreesen.
