Larry McQuay

WAUSA — Mass of Christian Burial for Larry McQuay, 81, Wausa, was Oct. 13, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Bloomfield. Rev. Tim Podraza was the Celebrant, with burial in Bloomfield City Cemetery. Visitation and a wake service were Oct. 12. Brockhaus Funeral Home, Wausa, was in charge of the arrangements. Larry died Oct. 9, 2018, at his residence. Larry Wayne McQuay, son of Alonzo and Emma (Hungate) McQuay, was born March 20, 1937, at Callao, Mo. He graduated from Macon High School, Macon, Mo. Larry married Del Rae Kollars Oct. 20, 1956, at Bevier, Mo. They had seven children, Carol, Cheryl, Teresa, Gary, Cynthia, Greg and Melissa. Larry and Del Rae lived in Missouri where he worked as a carpenter. Larry was a member of American Milk Producers Inc., and had been involved in dairying since boyhood. He grew up helping hand-milk cows on his parents’ farm in Macon County, Mo. He and Del Rae moved to Del Rae’s hometown of Crofton in 1960, and then moved to Lindy, and began their milk production. In 1973, they bought their present farm east of Wausa and converted it from a cattle feeder facility to a dairy operation. Larry was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Bloomfield. Larry is survived by his daughters, Carol (Robert) Konken, Patterson, N.Y.; Cheryl (Toney) Johnson, Columbus, Ga.; Teresa (Dana) Fairchild, Spencer, Iowa; Cynthia (Steven) Kumm, Wausa; and Melissa Collins, California; sons, Gary (Lesa) McQuay, Hulett, Wyo., and Greg McQuay, Magnet; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Judy Woods, San Clemente, Calif.; Dorothy Lauer, Albuquerque, N.M.; Bonnie Perry, New Albany, Ind.; and Calvin “Cap” McQuay, Ozark, Mo.; and dear friend, Peg Albin, Plainview. He was preceded in death by his wife; son-in-law, Jake Collins; sister, Virginia “Sis;” and brothers, Lester, Don, David and Baird Dale “BD.”
