LaDonna M. Burbach

COLERIDGE — LaDonna M. Burbach, 84, Coleridge, died March 10, 2018, at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospital, Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation will be on Wednesday, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Coleridge, from 5-8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at church one hour prior to services. Mass of Christian Burial will be March 15, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Rod Kneifl and Rev. David Liewer officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Coleridge. Pallbearers will be Bryan Kalin, Travis Kalin, Aaron Kalin, Carter Krei, Chris Haberer, Michael Wolfe and Josh Wolfe. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and spouses and great-grandchildren. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Coleridge. LaDonna Marie (Kneifl) Burbach, daughter of Leo and Amelia Kneifl, was born Aug. 6, 1933, in Newcastle. She graduated from Newcastle high school in 1951. In the early years, LaDonna assisted her parents on the farm until she married Duane Burbach Aug. 21, 1956, in Newcastle. Their first home together was in Coleridge, where they owned and operated the Coleridge Cafe. After selling the cafe and living a short period of time in Hartington, they returned to Coleridge where LaDonna raised her children while working 41 years at the Coleridge Nursing Home downtown, and then at Park View Haven. LaDonna was an active member of Saint Michael’s Church and together with Duane managed and maintained the St. Michael’s cemetery for 47 years, since 1968. LaDonna was also an active member of the St. Michael’s Altar Society and Christian Mothers. LaDonna attended the weekend retreat Christians Encounter Christ, Norfolk. LaDonna cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as she truly enjoyed attending their many events. A special treat was “Grandma’s famous chocolate chip cookies,” always available in the freezer. LaDonna was also one of the biggest Nebraska Cornhusker fans from the comfort of her own home, enjoying watching volleyball, basketball and football. LaDonna is survived by her five children and spouses, Connie and Robert Kalin, Hartington; Linda and Terry Krei, Sioux City, Iowa; Cindy Haberer, Coleridge; Terry and Jacie Burbach, Coleridge; Carol and Jeff Wolfe, Hartington; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Katherine and Dan McCabe, Newcastle; sister-in-law, Sally and Leroy Beste, Wynot; sisterin- law, Julie Kneifl, Hubbard; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Amelia Kneifl; husband, Duane, Dec. 13, 2017, at the age of 82 years; a brother, Louis Kneifl; her mother and father-in-law, Werner M. and Marjorie (Backman) Burbach; a son-in-law, Roger Haberer; granddaughter, Renae Kalin; and great-grandson, Samuel Krei.
