Katherine “Katie” Ann (Peters) Anderson

OAKLAND — Katherine “Katie” Ann (Peters) Anderson died Nov. 1, 2018, at Oakland Heights Nursing Home, Oakland.
Visitation was Tuesday at Salem Covenant Church, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Nov. 7, at Salem Covenant Church, rural Oakland.
Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, rural Oakland.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pelan Funeral Services, Oakland.
Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
Katie was born to Carl and Anna (Ropers) Peters July 6, 1928, on a farm southwest of Oakland. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, West Point, attended grade school at Von Essen School District #40 and graduated from Oakland High School in 1945. On her 19th birthday in 1947, Katie married Dwain Roger Anderson at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, West Point. They rented a farm northwest of Oakland for a few years before moving to and later buying the Joe Friedstrom farm south of Oakland. In 2010, they bought a home on Aurora Avenue and moved into town.
After high school, Katie worked at the Oakland Gas Company and often helped her cousin, Evelyn Benne, at the Oakland Greenhouse. In the mid 1970s, Dwain and Katie formed Dwain Anderson & Sons, Inc., an agricultural construction business, with Katie as secretary/bookkeeper.
Katie was an active member of Salem Covenant Church where she served as a Hi-League youth counselor and on the Memorial Committee, as well as planned and participated in many women’s events. Katie served on the Burt County Election Board for decades and was a member of the Harmony Circle neighborhood club and Oakland Hospital Auxiliary.
Katie was known for her beautiful flower and vegetable garden, providing bouquets for many special occasions. She also enjoyed collecting flow blue dishes, painting with oils, reading, cheering on the Cornhuskers at Memorial Stadium and hosting family and friends in her always seasonally decorated farm home.
Surviving Katie are her husband of 71 years, Dwain; sons, Tim (Debbie) and Cal (Sara), Oakland; Kevin (Diane), Arlington, Texas; Chad (Lisa), Pierce; and daughter, Anna (Paul) Anderson, Oakland; 13 grandchildren, Aaron (Jill) Anderson, Amanda Anderson, Seth Anderson; Nathan (Jennifer) Anderson, Adam (Stacy) Anderson, Tara (Eric) Miller; Ryan (Melanie) Anderson, Michaela (Ryan) Elfstrom, Charis (Keith) Roehrenbeck; Andrew Anderson, Alex (Stephanie) Anderson; Kaleb Anderson and Colby Anderson; 19 great-grandchildren, Edie, Owen and Emma Anderson; Noah and Ivy Anderson, Aathan, Abbott and Scarlett Anderson, Carson, Camryn, Peyton and Paxton Miller; Emory, Elise, Beckett and Sawyer Anderson; Keeva and Abel Elfstrom; and Oscar Anderson; sister-in-law, Marie Peters, Beemer; her Salem church family; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Harvey and Roland Peters.
