Joseph C. Nordhues

Services for Joseph C. Nordhues, 82, of Randolph will be held Friday, Oct. 26, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church in Randolph, with Reverend Father Michael Swanton officiating. Concelebrant will be Deacon Doug Tunink. Interment will be in Saint Jane Frances Catholic Cemetery at Randolph. Organist will be Ruth Carstens, and cantors will be Renae Nordhues and Randy Borst. Pallbearers are all of Joseph’s grandsons: Andy Nordhues, Matt Nordhues, Philip Wurdinger, Ed Burbach, Mitchell Nordhues, Ross Wurdinger, Mason Nordhues, Zachary Nordhues and Jackson Nordhues. Honorary pallbearers are all of Joseph’s granddaughters. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. rosary, on Thursday, Oct. 25, all at the church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home in Randolph. Mr. Nordhues died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, (on his wife’s birthday) at his home in Randolph. He was born March 15, 1936, at Randolph, the son of Herman Sr. and Lauretta (Schmit) Nordhues. Joe was a member of a 4-H Club and member of his high school basketball team and graduated from St. Frances Catholic High School in Randolph with the Class of 1954. After graduation, Joe attended business college in Omaha and began work for an Omaha sign company. Joe began dating Rosalee Gubbels and was engaged on Aug. 15, on her grandmother’s birthday. On Dec.r 30, 1958, Joe married Rosalee at Saint Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church in Randolph. They made their home near Belden, farming with Joe’s father until 1966, when they moved near Randolph. They continued farming in 1971 on Rosalee’s folks’ farm and Joe worked part-time off the farm for Terra Chemical in Randolph for several years. They retired and built their new house in Randolph in 1998. Joe worked after retirement at Randolph Community Golf Course for 10 years and assisted in the farming operation when needed. He was a member of Saint Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church in Randolph; Catholic Order of Foresters, serving as Chief Ranger for 10 years; Knights of Columbus; served as an elder server for funerals; served as past president and member of St. Frances church council, and served as past member of Cedar County Zoning Commission Board. His wife and children will miss him dearly. Surviving Joe is his wife of 59 years, Rosalee Nordhues of Randolph; eight children, Mark and Kathie Nordhues, Barb and Keith Burbach, Jolene and Paul Wurdinger, Marty Nordhues and Marvin and Kim Nordhues, all of Randolph, Doug and Becky Nordhues of McLean, Connie Nordhues of Omaha and Richard and Mary Nordhues of Syracuse; 22 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Lawrence and Jan Nordhues of Kearney, Paul and Doris Ann Nordhues of Sioux City and Dennis and Rosemary Nordhues of Randolph; one sister, Mary Goodwin of Omaha, and a former exchange student Veronique Vrydagh of Brussels, Belgium, who Joe considers a family member. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Benjamin Nordhues; one great-grandson Zayden Wichman; two brothers, John and Herman Jr., and two sisters, Katherine Heimes and Roseann Pollard.
