John H. Leger

LAUREL — John H. Leger, 82, Laurel, died Dec. 4, 2020, at the Faith Regional Hospital, Norfolk, due to Covid-19 complications.

No Funeral Services are being planned at this time.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Laurel

John Harold was born June 8, 1938, in Kaplan, La., to Gaston and Elvie (Hargrave) Leger. He grew up in Kaplan and graduated from Kaplan High School. After high school he joined the U.S. Airforce. John married Claire Gail Apking Feb. 20, 1960, in Denver, Colo., where they lived for several years. John worked in banking in Denver and then moved to Houston, New Orleans, and Las Vegas. He retired from banking and real estate and then moved to Laurel in 2010.

He was a member of the United Lutheran Church, Laurel, and was an usher and treasurer for the church. John was also a member of the Laurel Veterans Post #4504 & #54. He was always an avid reader.

John is survived by his wife, Claire, Laurel; son, Richard (Jan) Leger, Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter, Patricia Leger, Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren, Desi, Heather, Jarrett and Cody; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Beverly Albert, New Orleans, La.; and one niece.

John was preceded in death by his parents Gaston and Elvie Leger.
