John Dee Corder

McCOOK — John Dee Corder, 91, McCook, died Jan. 27, 2019, at Community Hospital.

John was born April 12, 1927, at McCook, to John Franklin and Mabel (Roggence) Corder. John grew up in McCook where he attended school. At the age of 17, John started working for the B.N. Railroad Roundhouse where his father worked. He then got a job as a fireman at the age of 18. A short time later, John was called to serve his country in the U.S. Army, joining his two older brothers for two years overseas, until his honorable discharge. He married Dorothy M. Williams May 2, 1948, in Brush, Colo. He took his bride to St. Francis, Kan., until he was called back to McCook to work for the railroad. In 1949, the couple moved into a small home on South 8th Street, just a block east of where John was born, and have continued to live for the past 69 years together. John worked for the railroad for 42 years before retiring.

The couple moved to Tennessee to finish Bible College. After school, they traveled in their RV volunteering ministry and helping small churches over the next few years in Nebraska. John was then called to pastor two churches with the Assembly of God Church, one of which was located at Coleridge, where they spent several years at the turn of the century and much loved the people of that community and the surrounding area.

They enjoyed going to the Senior Center for lunch and fellowship with their friends. John enjoyed his retirement years helping others and would often be found at a neighbor’s house when it was time for lunch. He was always pouring cement for the church and others that needed help. They enjoyed vacations traveling in their motor home. Johnny, as many called him, was loved by everyone. He was a man that loved Jesus and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Preceding John in death were his parents, Franklin and Mabel Corder; his son, Julius Corder; two sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include his wife of over 70 years, Dorothy Corder, Mc-Cook; daughter, Diana L. and husband, Charles Gull, McCook; and James E. Corder, Alameda, Calif.; two granddaughters, Veronica and Angie and husband, Todd Felber; seven great-grandchildren, Trevor, Tate, Dylan, Kayla, Marvin Corder and wife, Orian, Bird City, Kan.; and numerous family and a host of friends.
