James F. “Jim” Stevens

OMAHA — James F. “Jim” Stevens, 64, Omaha, formerly of Hartington, died Oct. 12, 2018, at the Josie Harper Hospice House from cancer. He was the son of Fritz and Norma Stevens. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Oct. 25, at 10:30 a.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will be at the St. Michael’s Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. There will also be a Celebration of Life for Jim at 3 p.m., Oct. 27, at Barrett’s Barley Corn, Omaha, at 4322 Leavenworth St., Omaha. James F. Stevens was born Oct. 5, 1954, in Omaha. His parents were Fredric “Fritz” and Norma Stevens, Hartington. Jim graduated from Hartington Cedar Catholic High School in May 1972. He then graduated from Wayne State College four years later in 1976. Jim moved to Ft. Wayne, Ind., where he was the Golf Pro for 10 years. Jim was a member of the Cedar Catholic Golf Team, as a freshman, that won the Nebraska State Class B Golf Tournament. Jim was a State Golf qualifier each year while in High School. Jim was the Hartington City Golf Champion for nine out of ten years. He gave lessons to many hopeful golf enthusiast starting in his high school years. After 15 years as a golf pro, Jim moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he started South Omaha Vacuums which he operated until his health deteriorated and prevented him from continuing. Jim is survived by his brother, Tom Stevens, Yankton, S.D.; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Norma Stevens, and aunts and uncles.
