H. Nicholas Windeshausen

FAIR OAKS, CA — Funeral services for H. Nicholas Windeshausen will be held Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Mount Vernon Memorial Park, 8201 Greenback Lane in Fair Oaks, CA. The services will consist of a Catholic Funeral Mass, along with a Court of Honor Navy flag-folding ceremony. He will be buried alongside his wife, Joyce, who died in 2008. Pallbearers will be Mitchell Birdsong, Simone and Kyle Durham,Tim and Ryan Funk, and Thomas McEwan.

Mr. Windeshausen died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022. He passed away quickly and peacefully after being hospitalized overnight. Both his daughters were at his side.

Nic was born May 16, 1923, to Nicholas and Katherine (Korth) Windeshausen in Osmond, and was the second of 11 children. He attended St Mary's Catholic Elementary School and then graduated from Osmond Pub - lic High School in 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War ll. He went back to Osmond after he was discharged where he continued dating Joyce Jean Pilger of Plainview. They married May 3, 1946, in Indianapolis, IN. Nic started his long career in edu - cation by taking advantage of the GI Bill and enrolling at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1950. In 1962, Nic received his PhD in marketing and management from UNL. A few other life changing events happened in 1962: Darcee arrived, the couple moved to Sacramento, CA, and then Lael arrived!! Thus the start of 60 years in the Sacramento area teaching at the California State University at Sacramento, volunteering for numerous organizations, traveling around the United States and the world, all while raising a family and enjoying many, many friend - ships along the way.

Nic was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Joyce.

He is survived by daughters Darcee Durham of Antelope, CA, and Lael Birdsong of Citrus Heights, CA, along with three grandchildren, Mitchell Birdsong and Simone and Kyle Durham.
