Glenn J. Gubbels

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Glenn J. Gubbels, 83, Sioux City, Iowa, died Sept. 22, 2018. Visitation and a Rosary were Tuesday at Meyers Brothers Colonial Chapel, Sioux City.  Services were Sept. 26 at Holy CrossBlessed Sacrament Church, Sioux City, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating.  Burial was at St. Francis Cemetery, Randolph.  Pallbearers were Glenn’s grandsons, Kenny Gubbels and Jacob Gubbels; Alex, Andrew and Greg Petersen; and Nicholas and Nathan Gubbels. Glenn J. Gubbels was born Feb. 16, 1935, in Randolph, to John and Mamie Gubbels.  Glenn served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1953-1955 as part of the 108th Transport Company.  He started in farming in the Randolph area.  Later, he owned and operated Randolph Fertilizer with his partner and lifelong friend, Gordon Dennis.  In 1969, Glenn went to work for Terra Industries in Sioux City, working over 30 years before retiring.  Glenn loved his family, kids and grandkids, and fishing at every opportunity he could find.  Glenn and Janelle (Colling) recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife, Janelle, Sioux City, Iowa; his children, Timothy (Ebbie) Gubbels, Yankton, S.D.; Ed Gubbels, Madiera Beach, Fla.; Steve (deceased) and Marcia Gubbels, Randolph; Anita Petersen, Omaha; and Jim (Kristi) Gubbels, Bemidji, Minn.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mamie Gubbels; a son, Steven Gubbels, and a sister, Doris Gromley.
