Evelyn L. Sedlacek

YANKTON, S.D. — Evelyn L. Sedlacek, 98, Yankton, S.D., died July 11, 2019, at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, at the Wintz and Ray Funeral Home, Yankton, with prayer service at 7 p.m., and continues one hour prior to the funeral at Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m., July 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton, with Rev. David Wildermuth officiating.

Pallbearers are Darrik DeLozier, Brian Eddie, Laddie Novak, Dustin DeLozier, Cody, DeLozier, Andrew DeLozier, Joshua Nieman, Jeremy Nieman and Jake Nieman.

Honorary pallbearers are Kyle Sedlacek, Mason Sedlacek, Nick Sorenson, Brady Sorenson, Josh McQueen and Jared McQueen.

Evelyn was born Sept. 7, 1920, on a farm in Wayne County, to Alexander and Anna Marie (Walker) Stamm. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended rural schools and graduated from Randolph High School in Randolph, in 1938. In 1940, Evelyn married Melvin DeLozier. After their marriage, they farmed north of Randolph for several years and then moved to a farm near Magnet. They were divorced in 1959, and Evelyn moved to Yankton. She worked at several different places in Yankton, but spent the last 20 years of her working career in the business office at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital. In 1970, Evelyn married Stanley Sedlacek and they enjoyed over 30 years of marriage together.

Evelyn loved to work in her garden and plant flowers. She also enjoyed cooking, dancing, camping, golfing and listening to music. She was a loving, caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, who will be deeply missed.

Evelyn is survived by six children, Jerry DeLozier, Yankton, S.D.; Nyla Eddie, Carroll; Jim (Mary) DeLozier, Castle Rock, Colo.; Doug (Cheryl) DeLozier, Brooksville, Fla.; Suzy Harmsen, Omaha; and Melissa (Randy) Nieman, Fremont; five step children, Joe Sedlacek, San Diego, Calif.; John Sedlacek, Yankton, S.D.; Jim (Shelly) Sedlacek, Onalaska, Wis.; Jerry (Polly) Sedlacek, Port Orchard, Wash.; and Mary Pat (Bruce) Sorenson, Yuma, Ariz.; son-in-law, Loran Tramp, Yankton, S.D.; 19 grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; twin sister, Adeline Thompson, Omaha; sister, Marjorie Spatz, San Clemente, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley Sedlacek, Jan. 15, 2003; daughter, Kathy Tramp; daughter-in-law, Bev DeLozier; son-in-law, Delmar Eddie; two grandsons, Matthew DeLozier and Brad Eddie; four great-grandchildren, Katie Novak, Kara Eddie, Kellyn Rozeboom and Bergan Koehler; two brothers, Rueben and Alex Stamm; and three sisters, Mary O’Connell, Rosie Carlson and Lillian Reed.
