Ervin M. Kumm

OSMOND — Funeral service for Ervin M. Kumm, 96, Osmond, were Sept. 21 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Osmond, with the Rev. Glen Emery officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, also at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Casketbearers were Christopher Hill, Jeff Jones, Todd Kumm, Michael Kumm, Trenton Kumm, Jesse Kumm, Jeremy Kumm and Travis Kumm. Ervin died Sept. 16, 2018, at the Colonial Manor, Randolph. Stonacek Memorial Chapel, Osmond, was in charge of the arrangements. Ervin Marvin Kumm was born April 15, 1922, at Osmond, to Ferdinand and Hilda (Lenz) Kumm. He was baptized May 7, 1922, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He later moved to Holyoke, Colo., with his parents. They returned to Meadow Grove. He was confirmed May 31, 1936, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Meadow Grove. He moved to Osmond with his parents in 1938, where he helped them in farming. He was a trustee for one term at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Osmond. He married Lorena Ellenberger Sept. 1, 1946, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Norfolk. They moved to a farm northwest of Osmond, where they raised their children. In 1956, they moved northeast of Osmond and farmed there until 1981, when they built their new home in Osmond. For the last 30 years, Ervin enjoyed going to the farm to help when he was needed. He enjoyed John Deere tractors, combines and other green machinery. He also traveled to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico and throughout the United States. He is survived by his wife, Lorena; four children, a daughter, Irene and Dennis Hill, Sioux City, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Arlis Kumm, Randolph; sons, Warren and Debra Kumm, Columbus; Gordon and Ruthie Kumm, Randolph; and LeRoy and Gloria Kumm, Osmond; and one sister, Delores Schnoor, Stanton. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Leland; brother, Elmer, and wife, Viola Kumm; and brother, Duane, and wife, Delores Kumm.
