Donald J. Jiracek

VERDIGRE — Mass of Christian Burial for Donald Jiracek, 88, Verdigre, was Jan. 26 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Verdigre. Rev. Kizito Okhuoya will be Celebrant, with burial in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery, Verdigre. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 259 and Army National Guard Honor Guard. Visitation was Jan. 25 at the church,. A Wake Service was followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary. Brockhaus Funeral Home, Verdigre was in charge of arrangements. Donald died Jan. 21, 2018, at Avera Creighton Hospital, Creighton. Donald J. Jiracek, son of Edward and Vilma (Wondra) Jiracek, was born Feb. 20, 1929, at Verdigre. He graduated from Verdigre High School and served in the United States Army, 1951-1953. After his service to his country, Donald returned to Verdigre, where he lived for the rest of his life. He worked as the Highway Superintendent for Knox County. Don is survived by his sisters, Virginia Barta and Dorothy (Neil) Sandoz, both of Lincoln; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward; and brother-in-law, LeRoy Barta.
