David William Adams

VERMILLION, S.D. — David William Adams, Vermillion, S.D., died July 18, 2022, following a three-year battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Services were July 26, with visitation at Kober Funeral Home, Vermillion.

There will also be a graveside service with military honors Aug. 20, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hartington.

Kober Funeral Home, Vermillion, has been entrusted with the services.

Adams was born Dec. 31, 1946, in Hartington, to Iven and Ruth (Eyl) Adams. He graduated from Cedar Catholic High School and attended Norfolk Community College, Norfolk, prior to enlisting in the Army. He served in Vietnam from 1968-1969. Upon returning home, he completed his education at Wayne State College, Wayne, earning a degree in medical technology.

Dave married Kathy Gothier Jan. 6, 1973, and they happily raised two sons, Brian and Greg, until Kathy lost her 11-year battle with breast cancer.

Dave married Michaelene (Weidemann) Preheim Oct. 9, 2010, and they made their home in Vermillion. They loved to travel, and visited Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Arches National Park, and other scenic places.

Dave’s sons recall enjoying fishing and camping with their father. Dave also enjoyed photography and had a collection of antique cameras. Dave enjoyed live music at Carey’s Bar Friday afternoons. He was a beloved prankster with his grandchildren, who adore him.

After completing an internship in Sioux City, Iowa, Dave worked at a private clinic in Plainview. He started working at Faith Regional Hospital, Norfolk, in 1992. Most recently, he was employed at the Olson Medical Clinic, Vermillion. He retired in 2021.

Dave is survived by his wife, Michaelene Adams, Vermillion, S.D.; his son, Greg Adams, Plainview, and his son, Brian Adams (Teresa); and his grandchildren, Chase, Braden and Alexis, Wayne; his step daughter, Emily Lawrence (Ralph); and his grandchildren, Josephine, Oliver and Julian, Sioux Falls, S.D.; his brother, Jim Adams (Ruth), Hartington; and Dan Adams (Delvona), Aurora, Colo.; as well as many Adams and Gothier nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Michael; and his sister, Vicky.
