Claire Eugene Hansen

HARTINGTON — Claire Eugene Hansen, 86, Hartington, died March 12, 2019, at his residence.

Visitation and a Prayer service were Friday at the church, and continued one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Funeral Services were March 16 at the United Lutheran Church, Laurel, with Rev. Matthew Quanbeck officiating.

Burial was in the Lawn Ridge Cemetery, Coleridge, with military services provided by the Coleridge American Legion Post 114.

Pallbearers were Dr. Steven Hansen, Matthew Hansen, Daniel Hansen, Michael Waid, Matthew Waid, Tyler Specht, Peter Hansen and Dr. Bryce Hansen.

Honorary Pallbearers were Don Maulding,Jerry Heine,VernealGade,Chuck Albers and Marvin Domina.

The Wintz Funeral Home, Laurel, assisted with the arrangements.

Claire was born Sept. 25, 1932, in Coleridge, to Carl Detlef and Emma Sophia (Frerichs) Hansen. He grew up in the Coleridge area and graduated from Coleridge High School in 1949. He continued his education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, for one year. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955, serving in North Africa. Claire married Helene C. Felter Nov. 6, 1955, in Lone Wolf, Okla. After their marriage, Claire and Helene farmed east of Coleridge, until they moved to a farm south of Coleridge in 1960. From 1963-1981, Claire owned and operated Hansen Implement, Coleridge, and also farmed until 1992. Helene died Oct. 25, 2006. Claire married Marilyn Hansen Nov. 23, 2007 in Coleridge. They made their home in Hartington.

Claire was a member of the United Lutheran Church, Laurel, and the Coleridge American Legion Post 114. He was a former board member of the Educational Service Unit #1, the Osmond Hospital, the Coleridge Community School District, Cedarview Golf Course, and was a former council member for Immanuel Lutheran Church, Coleridge. Claire volunteered for the American Red Cross and traveled to New York City after 9/11 and other locations in the U.S. and abroad.

He enjoyed golf and playing cards. He had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He enjoyed telling stories and making people laugh.

Claire is survived by his wife, Marilyn Hansen, Hartington; one son, Byron and Sheryl Hansen, Kearney; three grandsons, Dr. Steven and Brittany Hansen and their sons, James and Wyatt, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Matthew and Cassie Hansen, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Daniel Hansen and his fiancé, Madison Fickel, Lincoln; six step children, Sandra Hansen, Ames, Iowa; Cherine and James Specht, Hartington; Drs. Dale and Sandra Hansen, Lincoln; Dr. Lori Hansen and husband, Dr. Mike Waid, Yankton, S.D.; Dave and Karla Hansen, Hartington; and Drs. Calvin and Kathleen Hansen, West Des Moines, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helene; daughter, Denice Hansen; son, Gary Hansen; three brothers, Clayton, Dallas and Francis Hansen; sister-in-law, Frances Hansen; and Stacey and Lacey Specht, Joslynn Specht, Eva Hansen and Kasey Hansen.
