Betty Lou Clithero

GREELEY, Colo. — Betty Lou Clithero, 95, Greeley, Colo., died Sept. 14, 2021, at her home in Greeley.

A gathering will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hartington, Oct. 5 2021 at 11 a.m. There will be a grave side burial at 1 p.m., at the Hartington Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 21, 1925, in Hartington, to Martin and Betsy Larson. She was the only child growing up. She was raised on her parents farm in Hartington. She grew up with John Grindvold who lived down the road from her family farm. Since she was the only child they became very close in friendship. They have remained friends since, Betty even traveled from Greeley, to help celebrate John’s 100th birthday two years ago. They spoke often up until her passing. She attended school in Hartington, and went on to the University of South Dakota, where she obtained her bachelor degree in teaching and home economics, and finished her education at the University of Northern Colorado, with a master’s degree. She married the love of her life Joseph Benton Clithero Aug. 3, 1952, in Hartington.

She was a part of many different organizations including but not limited to, Sons of Norway, P.E.O. Chapter EZ, Old Buckers wife, CHI Omega fraternity, Boy Scouts of America and 4-H.

She worked as a teacher, homemaker and owned multiple businesses. She and her late husband started B&J Creative Photography from 1991 to 2003 in the Colorado area. She loved traveling the world with her husband and saw many different places. One of her favorite spots to visit was Norway. With her teaching degree in home economics, she helped substitute in many different schools in Northern Colorado.

She had two children, David Benton Clithero, born Oct. 9, 1959, and Mary Louise Titmus, June 2, 1963. She watched her daughter marry Stan (Eddie) Titmus at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She also watched her son marry Peri Gore in Gunnison, Colo.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Titmus; daughter-in-law, Peri Gore-Clithero; grandchildren, Sandra (Keane) Ververs, Christopher (Kelsey) Titmus, and Jessica (Dustin) Glover; and great-grandchildren, David, Summer, Ciera, Abbigale, Cloe, Logan and Brooklyn.

She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, husband, son and son-in-law.
