Betty Ann (Hokamp) Blotz

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. — Betty Ann (Hokamp) Blotz, 91, died Feb. 28, 2018, at her home while surrounded by family. She was a Northern California resident for over 63 years, many of those in Siskiyou County. At Betty’s request, no services are to be held. Girdner Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Betty was born on a farm northwest of Carroll, Feb. 16, 1927, to Edward and Katie (Bock) Hokamp. She married John Robert “Jack” Blotz Sept. 14, 1947. The couple farmed near Randolph, until they moved to Willow Creek, Calif., in 1955, with their two young daughters. They moved on to Orleans, Calif.; Happy Camp, Calif.; Grenada, Calif.; and Oroville, Calif. After Jack’s passing in 2011, Betty moved back to Siskiyou County in 2012. Betty worked for 40 years in veneer mills throughout Siskiyou County, where she held her own against some of the toughest of men. She was a member of the Lutheran Church. When she wasn’t working or spending time with her family, Betty enjoyed walking, cycling, playing Pinochle, tending to flowers and gardening. She was a huge San Francisco Giants baseball fan. Betty loved to travel. She and Jack owned their own airplane and would regularly hop in for a spontaneous vacation. Above and beyond her hobbies and achievements, Betty will be remembered for being a wonderful mother, grandmother, and good person. She was kind, honest, and well loved by all. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse, Jack; a brother, Vernon “Steve” Hokamp; two sisters, Lorraine Bierschenk and Lois Krueger; and one grandchild. She is survived by her daughters, Diann (Lloyd) Bridenstine, Yreka, Calif., and Deborah (Eugene) Knuttila, Ferndale, Nev.; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
