Benjamin Lee Chavet

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX — Benjamin Lee Chavet of Grand Prairie, TX, formerly of Plainview, NE, passed away from this life at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center in Mansfield, TX, on Friday, March 26, 2021. He had courageously fought a long, hard battle with COVID-19 pneumonia. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Born Oct. 31, 1978, in Norfolk, NE, he was the oldest of five children of Rex and Nadene (Wiese) Chavet and was a wonderful big brother to his siblings. He was baptized Nov. 23, 1978, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Osmond. Ben lived with his family on a farm north of Osmond until they moved to Plainview in November 1981. He attended Zion Lutheran School in Plainview, from preschool through grade 8. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1993 and graduated from Plainview High School May 1997. Ben married Suellen Vandry of Osmond on June 24, 2000, in Lincoln. They were blessed with two children, Sam (Samantha) and Aiden. Ben earned a bachelor of science degree in computer science from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. He and his wife moved to Texas in 2008 where he worked as a senior system administrator and resident Drupal-hosting expert at NeoSpire. Early in 2012, shortly before their first child was born, he joined Lullabot as a senior systems architect, a systems administrator, server and hosting infrastructure architect, and web and database optimizations expert. Ben loved technology, especially computers. He was a big Nebraska football fan. He enjoyed DIY home improvement projects and playing drums. He could even make the plastic “Rock Band” drums sound impressive. He also enjoyed video games and maintained a small tech blog. Above all else, he loved being a father and husband.

He is survived by his wife and two young children; mother Nadene (Wiese) Chavet of Plainview; father Rex Chavet of Murphy, NC; sisters Alysha (Matt) Carstens of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Mirinda (Jonathan) Krenz of Virginia Beach, VA, and Jillienne (Joe) Moreno of Murphy, NC; brother Jacob Chavet, also of Murphy, NC; stepsister Christina (Joe) Garcia of Shawnee, OK; stepbrother Brian (Erin) Rutjens of Tilden, and several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends.

He was proceeded in death by grandparents Delhart and Deloris Wiese and Albert and LeOta Chavet and an uncle, Ron Wecker.
