Alta's father died from cancer when she was just a teenager and she took a job as a live-in housekeeper to the Folkers family in Osmond, where she met and married Arthur Koehler. Art and Alta operated Koehler Motor Company, a Chevy dealership and auto repair business. They were longtime residents of Osmond where they raised four children: Gerald, Jerry, LeRoy and Judy. She had nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren. Alta enjoyed making quilts, knitting and crocheting. She made afghans well into her nineties which she donated to the Veterans Hospital. She received a letter of appreciation from the Department of Veterans Affairs for her work.
