LAUREL — Mr. and Mrs. Fred Madsen opened the Hi-Way Café August 13 after purchasing the business from Frieda Colbenson.

LAUREL — Hot lunch program will makes its debut in the Laurel school this year. Supt. Slone said the price of a meal would be 25 cents.

LAUREL — Dale Janssen showed the Reserve Grand Champion Holstein at the Cedar County fair. The Grand Champion Holstein was shown by Dale’s sister, Patty Jo. Purple ribbon group of five honors went to the Laurel Livestock Club. Awards went to Mickey Knuzman, George Schroeder, Cindy Sohler and Sheila and Tony Kuzman. All the calves, except Cindy Sohler’s were owned by the Kunzmans. George was herdsman for the group.
