Knox County 4-H - Area youth take part in Large Animal Sessions

CENTER — With the Knox County Fair approaching, 4-Hers’ have been working hard to get certified to show their animals.

Three hosted sessions of YQCA are being held throughout the summer and have had a great turn out so far.

The YQCA sessions have been led by Ben Beckman, Extension Educator. YQCA teaches 4-H members about animal products, animal care and safety, and animal care requirements.

At the final YQCA session June 24 at the Bloomfield Fairgrounds, a Large Animal Showmanship Clinic was added. At the showmanship clinic, 4-Her’s got the chance to see some real-life examples of how to show in the ring as they would at the fair.

Three volunteers brought their animals to give a demonstration. Madie Ziegler brought her breeding heifer, Brittani Pospisil brought her sheep, and Evan Ruzicka brought his breeding goat.

Each volunteer showed 4-Her’s how to prepare their animal for the fair, how to show their animal in the ring and what judges will be looking for, and how to overall care for each animal.

This year’s Knox County Fair will be held Aug. 11 -15.
