Community urged to support Medal of Honor Highway event
LAUREL — Area residents are asked to help welcome the veterans into Laurel Friday who are helping to christen Nebraska’s portion of the Medal of Honor Highway
The team began their walk at the Wyoming border May 11 to introduce the Nebraska section of the Medal of Honor Highway. They will walk to South Sioux City May 22, carrying the Medal of Honor Highway Flag to be passed on to Iowa veterans.
The walkers and entourage are expected to reach Laurel around noon Friday. Area residents are asked to welcome them to town with flags, and patriotic signs to line the highway from the cemetery to Subway to give the veterans a one-of-a-kind welcome. Local Veteran Dwayne Freeman is part of this group. The Cedar-Knox bucket truck driven by John Freeman will display a huge American flag for the event.
