Architect selected at City Council meeting

LAUREL — Laurel City Council members met July 22 to advance details of the anticipated community center.

Committee members have selected Carlson West Povondra Architects of Omaha from a field of nine architect and engineer proposals.

Nine firms submitted proposals. That group was then narrowed down to five. All five of the finalists were interviewed and Carlson West Povondra was then chosen for the project.

Mayor Mark Patefield said the firm is the same one being utilized by the school district.

Several committee members will be working on negotiations for a fee for services by the architectural firm.

The council gave permission to exercise the option agreement between the City of Laurel and Jim and Dawn Casey for the Laurel Community Center location.

No payment terms were available other than the first payment will be made when the city takes possession on Oct. 1. The closing would then take place Feb. 1.

The Council was told grant funds and fund raising money will cover the option agreement.

The next regularly scheduled Council meeting will be Aug. 10 at 6 p.m.
