Class Registration

Hello to everyone who is taking the time to read this article.  The cold outside reminds us that winter activities are still in full swing but as the days continue to get longer, we are also reminded that spring is not that far off.  I would like to take some time to wish good luck to all participants and coaches involved in winter activities as you begin to prepare for district competition.

The month of March brings us many dates on the calendar to look forward to.  State basketball tournaments, spring break, first day of spring and the end of the third quarter are all examples.

Another example that is easy to overlook is class registration for the 2020-21 school year for students in grades 6-11.  Toward the end of March, all students in grades 7-11 will meet with their student learning teams and advisors to begin the process of class registration.

This registration process has two purposes. The first is to ensure the students are on track to graduate. The second is to select classes that fit their career interests for life after high school.

All students in grades 9-12 must earn a total of 230 credits to graduate from Osmond Community Schools.  Of these 230 credits, 155 of them come from classes that are required for graduation by the Nebraska Department of Education and the Osmond Board of Education.

The other 75 credits come from elective classes that the students register for because they have an interest in taking them. Students in grades 11-12 also have the option of taking on-line classes for either high school or college credit.

Parents play a significant role in the class registration process as well.  Please take time to discuss your student’s schedule with them and feel free to direct any questions to the school that you may have before signing and finalizing their schedule.

Together we can ensure your child is receiving a high school education that will prepare them for their plans after high school. Go Tigers!
