Bears fall in battle of state-rated teams

After dropping a tough matchup to Osmond on the road, LCC bounced back with two wins and opened Lewis & Clark Conference tournament play Monday with an easy win.

Last Tuesday, the Bears hooked up with undefeated Osmond in a dandy of a game that saw the host Tigers pull away in the final period for a 55-46 victory.

Noah Schutte yet another double-double with a gamehigh 27 points and 12 rebounds against the powerful Tigers.

Ty Erwin added nine points, Evan Haisch had five, Austin Hall scored three points and had six boards, and Cael Hartung added two points.

LCC bounced back in a big way on Thursday, burning up the nets for 51 first-half points on their way to an easy 82-36 home win over Wakefield.

Schutte had another doubledouble with 28 points and 10 rebounds, and also led the team in assists (6) and steals (6).

Erwin (19), Haisch (13) and Deagan Puppe (10) all finished in double figures for LCC. Wilton Roberts added five points, Hall had four and Lucas Rasmussen scored three. Erwin had seven rebounds and Hall grabbed six.

The Bears kept the hot hand going the following night at Creighton, blowing out the Bulldogs in an 84-43 decision.

LCC had three players in double figures in the win, led by Schutte’s 19 points and 14 rebounds. Erwin added 17 and Hall had 16. Puppe, Schmitt and Haisch each had nine points and Landen Boysen scored two.

Erwin had six assists and five rebounds, Hall had five boards and Schutte has five assists and three steals.

In Monday’s opening round of the Lewis & Clark Conference tournament, the host Bears had no problem with Wausa, posting an easy 78-40 win.

For the second time in three games, the Bears put 50-plus on the board in the first half, racing to a 52-19 lead on their way to the easy win.

Haisch scored a game-high 23 points and had eight rebounds to lead LCC. Schutte had 16 points and 15 rebounds, Erwin added 16 points, Puppe scored seven, Schmitt had six, Roberts had four and Hall, Rasmussen and Jake Rath each had two.

Haisch had eight rebounds, Erwin had four assists and five steals and Schutte had four steals and three assists.

LCC continues Lewis & Clark Conference tournament play on Thursday, with the semifinals set for Saturday and the finals Monday at LCC.
