Laurel voters give their overwhelming approval to sales tax

HARTINGTON — Laurel city voters voiced overwhelming support last week for a local income tax. Laurel residents favored the proposal by a 71-28 percent margin as voters showed their approval for the plan. Laurel Mayor Mark Patefield said the sales tax will do a lot to help the community. “We already pay many taxes; federal and state, but those dollars leave our community, and most often do not come back in equal measure,” Patefield said.
