Up, up and away
Sadie Lute, Paxton Hoeppner, Jolynn Kinkaid (above) and Blake Hansen (left) bring their balloons back after launching them. The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge second graders conducted their annual launching of the paper hot air balloons last week.
Teachers Sue Koch and Audrea Klassen accompanied the students to the football field where a heater was setup and used to fill the paper balloons. With an audience made up of the other elementary classes and a fairly stiff breeze, the balloons were launched. As the students learned about the science of how the balloons become airborne and with the integration of fun, the students were able to learn a great lesson in aerodynamics.
