AND THE WALLS CAME TUMBLING DOWN

Last week, the Tiger Town Food & Floral Center building, the three-story section of which was known as the Cizek building, was torn down after it was declared a total loss following a July 9 fire. A large crowd gathered to watch on Thursday afternoon as the building came down, piece by piece. There was a frightening moment later in the day when the backhoe pulling the building down fell through the floor and tipped over; however, the operator, “Red” Aschoff, was soon seen climbing out of the machine uninjured. Work continued later that evening, once a bigger backhoe was brought to town to help the first one out. In the meantime, Chick and Dee Reed, former owners of a part of the building which was known as Chick’s Grocery, visited the site. They noted that they had lived for nine years in the basement below the grocery store. Cleanup of the debris continued early this week.
