‘Christmas Wishes’ planned for Sunday

OSMOND — Sunday marks the 2019 edition of “Osmond Christmas Wishes.” The event will take place at Osmond city auditorium. It is sponsored by Sons of the American Legion Squadron 326.

The evening will begin with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. A catered meal will be served by Tiger Tavern staff at 6:30 p.m.

An “Osmond video” will be presented by Jeff and Cash Luhr, featuring a tribute to Osmond veterans who died during the past year. They will also present a video featuring pictures of the March flood and the cleanup effort that followed.

The featured entertainment will be presented by the Turkey Creek Revival Band, a group that performs gospel music. The band first got together 15 years ago to perform at an outdoor service at the rural Wakonda, SD, home of Mark and Sharyn Ostrem.

Mark is pastor of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Irene and the rural Trondhjem Lutheran Church north of Volin. He and wife Sharyn both sing in the gospel band, and Sharyn, a long-time music teacher and multi-instrumentalist who has played bass fiddle for more than 30 years in the Sioux City Symphony, plays bass in the group. Sharyn is the daughter of OHS graduate Carol (Dibbert) Whipple.

The other members of the band include twins Dale and Dean Knutson of Centerville, SD, who sing and play guitar and mandolin in the band, and Matt Kiger of rural Volin, who sings and plays guitar.

The focus of the evening will be the “Christmas Wishes” element. Individuals and families may be nominated to receive help at Christmas time. Names of persons who could use a little help this Christmas should be submitted to Doug Koehler at (402) 750-4191 or Jim Schmit, (402) 649-1011. Last year’s Christmas Wishes raised more than $17,000 to bring joy to individuals and families.

Reservations are encouraged for the meal. Information for making RSVPs and evening activities are contained in an ad on Page 6 of this issue.
