Work begins to refurbish track

RANDOLPH - Residents are asked to stay off the Randolph High School track as work is underway to refurbish it.

Pro Track & Tennis of Omaha started the work at the track last week including repairing cracks in the asphalt base, said Superintendent Jeff Hoesing. The company will also put a rubber overlay on the track along with the high jump area and the two runways used for long- and triple-jump events.

The final cost for the project is about $143,000, he said, which includes an armor “over spray” on top of the new rubber and all of the striping and other markings needed on the track’s new surface.

The funds for the project are coming out of the district’s depreciation fund. This past fall, the Randolph School Board agreed to transfer some money to the fund for the purpose of refurbishing the track. At that time, it was noted that some of the white stripe on the outer lane of the track was crumbling over the edge.

The work refurbishing the track is expected to take several weeks and finish up by midsummer, Hoesing said.
