Wieck is enjoying life at Hillcrest

LAUREL — Megan Wieck is starting to get comfortable at Hillcrest Care Center.

She began her new position in June as administrator at the facility.

She is also currently the administrator for the Ponca Health Care Center and will split time between Ponca and Laurel.

Wieck has been at Ponca since June of 2021 and lives in Grand Island with her husband Brian where the couple has an 11-year-old daughter, Brilyn.

“The stable staffing here at Hillcrest is very impressive,” Wieck said. “The facility retains a lot of its staff - which is remarkable in the industry - especially at this time.”

Her career has led her to various administrative positions on and off since 2010.

She earned her administration associates degree from Southeast Community College in Lincoln back in 2020 and has held positions of business manager and human resources director at other facilities.

“The climate in long term care became very unstable with COVID,” Wieck said. “The rules and regulations changed daily.”

She said things have settled some, but the industry remains vigilant to keep the residents and the staff healthy and safe.

“They have done the right things here and we will continue to do what is best for everyone,” Wieck said. “We’re not sure what the new normal will be or look like, but things have settled down some.”

Wieck also noted there are always things to fix in every health care facility, but she likes what she has found at Hillcrest.

“The bones of the operation are solid here,” she said. “It takes a team to run a long term health care facility and there is a good one here - it’s a great family atmosphere for our residents and our staff.”
