Wells to serve as Chief of Police

OSMOND — As of June 1, Osmond has a new Chief of Police. Tyler Wells of Plainview was hired by the City of Osmond after going without a local police presence since August of 2019, when the police chief at that time, Gary Umberger, became ill. Umberger died in November.

Wells, a 2005 graduate of Plainview High School, attended the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center (NLETC) in Grand Island and received a bachelors degree in criminology and criminal justice with a minor in psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He received his certification in 2012, which is when he began working for the police department in Plainview.

Wells said he is not unfamiliar with Osmond, having worked here part-time in the past. He will have a varied schedule in Osmond, but will work approximately 50 hours a week, both weekdays and weekends.

For the time being, Tyler said he and his family will remain in Plainview. His family includes his wife, Stephanie and sons Liam, five, and Logan, three.

Tyler commented, “I appreciate the opportunity to work for Osmond and look forward to serving the community. I’m glad to be here.”

The phone number for the police department in Osmond is (402) 748-3365, and Tyler’s cell phone number is (402) 851-0143.
