The show will go on

Randolph Community Fair will begin on Friday

RANDOLPH — As the saying goes, “the show must go on” or in Randolph’s case ‘yes, the Fair is still happening this year.”

The 2020 Randolph Community Fair will take place July 10, 11 and 12.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions and guidelines from the governor’s office, Randolph’s annual summer event will look a little different this year, Fair organizers said, “but we are excited to bring back many favorites for the Randolph community.”

Area residents are urged to practice social distancing. Masks are also encouraged at all events.

The Lied Randolph Public Library Family Fun Night will be held at the baseball field grandstand at 6:30 p.m. Peter Brunette will entertain with rope walking and fire juggling. A meal of walking tacos or taverns will be available beginning at 6 p.m. The farmer obstacle course for those nine years old and under will follow the show and is sponsored by the local FFA.

An added event this year is a Digital Scavenger Hunt which will be held Saturday morning from 10 a.m. – 12 noon This will be a walking only event and is for teams made up of one to four people. All ages are welcome but anyone under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the City auditorium at 10 a.m. with a digital device to receive complete rules and instructions.

Come up town Saturday night for a Block Party from 8:30 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. Enjoy music and drinks while practicing safe social distancing.

The Knights of Columbus will also have food available for purchase. Admission to the block party is free this year.

The Fireman’s Omelet Breakfast will be held Sunday morning at the City Auditorium but plans are subject to change based on Covid-19 requirements.

A popular fair event, the Community BBQ, is once again being provided by First State Bank, but this year, families are encouraged to bring a blanket or chairs to enjoy your meal “Picnic Style”.

A limited number of picnic tables will also be available. The BBQ will still be Sunday evening 6–8 p.m. at the City Park but will be closer to the playground equipment and shaded area instead of near the grandstand. And yes, the “Funnel Cake Lady” will be here. Unfortunately, due to current guidelines that prohibit carnival games, there will not be inflatables or carnival type games for the kids this year but families are encouraged to play Frisbee golf on the new course at the city park or bring a basketball, tennis equipment or yard games and have fun with your family.

We will not be presenting awards for Employee of Year, Good Neighbor and Farm Family this year so please be thinking of nominees to submit next year.

For a complete list of other Randolph Fair events please see the Fair ad in the Randolph Times or posters around town but please note a couple of changes mentioned above to locations of events.
