Shelter going up in Memorial Park

OSMOND — A new shelter is going up in Memorial Park north of the city auditorium. Marv Kumm of the Osmond Park Board said he had seen similar shelters at a rest stop in Iowa while on a trip through the area, and liked the design. He thought it would be a good idea for a shelter for the picnic table in the park, so he went to Kelly Hodson of West-Hodson Lumber and Concrete, who drew up blue prints from the pictures Marv took.

The reason he came up with the idea, Marv said, was that when he was working in the park one day, a woman who was visiting the veterans monument said it would be nice to have a picnic table to sit and have a little lunch, or just sit and think about one of the names on the monument.

The park board already had a table to be placed there, funded through Thrivent. The shelter will also be funded in part by Thrivent, with the rest of the funds coming from the park board.

Michael Koehler with Diamond K Construction is doing the work on the shelter, while Brandon Stech of Stech Construction poured the cement slab.

Memorial Park received a major facelift last September when the new Osmond Veterans Monument was completed and the surrounding area received new landscaping. Bids are now being sought to reseed the east half of the park, and new flowers have been planted in several locations in that area of the park, also with funding through Thrivent.
