Santa Comes to town

Santa Claus’ visit to Randolph this year looked quite a bit different than in past years. To help stop the spread of COVID, St. Nick made sure he practiced proper Social Distancing for his visit with area kids. Approximately 125 kids visited with Santa and over 300 bowls of soup were carried out at the Santa and Soup To Go event Friday, Dec. 11 at the City Auditorium. While this year’s town celebration was a scaled down version of the traditional Blast from the Past celebration, organizers still considered it a great success. The event was sponsored by ROAR.

Colby Wathor watches over his brother Boston Backhaus and sister Hailey Backhaus as they visit with Santa Friday at the City Auditorium.

Natalie Schmit (daughter of Tim and Brooke Schmit) stands in line to see Santa at Friday night’s Santa and Soup to Go event.

Eleven month old Zoey Gubbels was full of smiles during her visit with Santa. Zoey is the daughter of Jace and Kelsey Gubbels.

The Frozen Cow opened up out of season for Friday night’s event. The temperatures were in the mid 30s, but that didn’t stop the ice cream lovers from standing in line for a frozen treat. There was always a continuous line half a block long during the three hours that it was open. All the proceeds are being donated ROAR.

Roy Nielsen and his dad Aaron waited outside of the Frozen Cow to get their cups of ice cream, one was for his twin sister, Jeri.
