RANDOLPH — It’s now a well-known item that Australia has been burning for over two months, burned down 12.5 million acres and counting while killing now over a billion animals.

Kangaroos to Koala bears have died in the blaze that has engulfed the country and touched the hearts of people across the globe.

Randolph eight-year-old Rylee Reimers was deeply saddened by the news and wanted to do her part to help.

Reimers is making wooden-bead bracelets to sell with the goal of raising money to send to Australia and give some assistance in helping save whatever animals can escape the disaster that has engulfed so much of the eastern part of the country.

“I want to help Australia and donate $1,000 to the wildlife warriors,” Reimers said. “(A billion) animals have already died.”

Reimers attends Randolph elementary and she has been making the bracelets with help of her sister Bria and her mother Amanda – her father is Aaron Reimers.

“We are the three that have been working on it so far,” Amanda said. “Most of them are different colors and on some of them, the girls are spelling out different words like ‘live,’ ‘love,’ ‘hope,’ ‘kangaroo,’ ‘koala.’ You can put letters on some of them to make words.

Her mother said Rylee has always had a special place in her heart for animals.

“Rylee has always been interested in zoos and talks about wanting to work one day at a zoo. She saw the Australian Zoo and the Wildlife Warriors were helping,” Amanda said.

The Reimers saw how mittens were being made for Koalas whose paws were burned and Rylee wanted to help with that.

It takes about three to five minutes to make each bracelet. So far Rylee has made 58 bracelets and would need to make 334 to raise the $1,000.

“She is very sensitive and if someone or something is hurting, she is hurting too,” Amanda said of Rylee.

The young lady said she would keep going if she were to raise more than the $1,000.
